A man and woman have been arrested in Oxford following a police car chase.

The incident took place in the early hours of Wednesday morning after a vehicle "failed to stop" for officers on Grenoble Road in Littlemore.

Thames Valley Police say a brief pursuit took place and two people were arrested.

A 44-year-old man from Oxford was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop when directed by a police officer.

A 33-year-old woman was also arrested on suspicion of failing to stop when directed by a police officer when instructed to do so.

She was also arrested on suspicion of possession of a knife blade/sharp pointed object in a public place.

The force confirmed that both suspects remain in police custody.

Cowley residents reported seeing as many as five police cars and a dozen officers around the Clive Road area shortly after the chase.

A police helicopter has also sighted circling above Cowley with Thames Valley Police confirming that the National Police Air Service were deployed during the incident.

The force also confirmed to the Oxford Mail that nobody was injured in the incident.
