A four-legged friend is looking for a new family after spending more than two years in rescue since when he was a puppy.

The dog called Harley first came into care to the National Animal Welfare Trust (NAWT) at six-months-old after an extremely rough start to life.

NAWT oversees rehoming in Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Hampshire and Wiltshire.

A NAWT spokesperson said: "Harley has never experienced a loving home and is desperate to find compassionate and caring owners."

The team said, despite some ongoing behavioural needs, Harley has come a long way and has even made several dog friends around the rescue, including centre supervisor, Taryn Beaumont’s, own dog Mr Goose.

Ms Beaumont said: “Harley is an extremely intelligent and affectionate boy.

"He just loves to please you – he is so sweet natured."

Ms Beaumont said the team was lucky to have the skills of the animal care assistants with a "wealth of knowledge and experience between us".

She said: "The team have worked very closely with Harley to truly understand why he displays the behaviours he does.

“If you do not understand why a dog is displaying a behaviour in the first place, you will never truly correct the behaviour, you will just be managing it which isn’t something we have been aiming for with Harley.

"Harley’s ideal home would need to be loving and patient people who can help to provide a structured day for him.

"Harley really thrives once he has learnt your routine and here at NAWT we will provide whoever is lucky enough to rehome Harley with all the tools and knowledge they need to ensure his next home is his last."

Despite a tough journey for the adorable mutt, the team is sure there is a right home out there for Harley.

The staff are appealing to help find Harley the perfect home he deserves.
