There has been a new record catch at an Oxfordshire lake after a skilled angler caught a massive carp. 

Andrew Phipps caught the the carp from the Hardwick Smiths lake at the Linear Fisheries near Witney.

The fish has been dubbed "the Hardwick Mirror" and was last caught a few months ago, according to the Linear Fisheries team

She last weighed 47lb but when Mr Phipps caught up with her recently, she had gained some pounds - setting a new lake record weight of 49lb 8oz. 

The team from Linear Fisheries congratulated Andrew for his massive effort, fishing solid bags with Sticky Baits Krill wafters.

They said they are hoping the "Hardwick Mirror" will be the third 50lb carp on the Oxfordshire complex in "the not too distant future".

The team said he landed tench of various sizes - with the top biggest weighing 9lb 2oz and 10lb 60z. 

A spokesperson for the team added: "But he wasn’t done there - he also caught 'Two Tone' at 44lb 1oz and 'the Big Fully' at 42lb 14oz."
