The search for the culprits behind a criminal damage incident at a Witney sporting club continues, after the community was left shocked by the recent break-in.

Thames Valley Police has released a revised statement in the break-in at the Witney Vikings Youth Football Club facilities.

In a new statement, a police spokesperson has outlined that no offenders were identified and that officers helped to clear the mess up, not the alleged offenders.

The spokesperson said: "We received a report of criminal damage and theft at Burwell Meadow, Witney, at around 7.20pm on Thursday, May 30."

"Two boys had gained access to a shipping container and threw six or seven boxes and a bag of footballs from inside over the fence into the basketball court.

"The boxes each contained 12 football trophies, each worth £500, and a bag of 10 footballs, worth about £100.

"Officers attended and helped to clear up the mess."

The police confirmed no arrests had been made and no offenders identified, although "words of advice" were given to members of an unauthorised encampment nearby.
