Locals, councillors and visitors alike have praised the first Magdalen Road Food Festival organised by residents and traders. 

The family-friendly event coincided with the popular monthly Magdalen Arms Flea Market and showcased retailers and food from around the world, with music and a new photography exhibition rounding off the entertainment.

Craig Simmons, former Lord Mayor and resident who also helped organise the festival, said: "I have lived on this amazing street for more than 25 years.

"Over this time it has changed and evolved but always remained true to itself as a vibrant, mixed, diverse residential and commercial street.

"This Festival aims to celebrate the more than 100 fantastic traders and cafes on Magdalen Road."

Green Oxford City Councillor Max Morris said they had a marvellous time at the very first Magdalen Road Food Festival - praising the "local art, live music and lovely people". 

Another Green Party Councillor Emily Kerr was also in attendance and praised the event - saying the festival was "absolutely kicking".

Liberal Democrats Councillor Andrew Gant, who attended said: "Great to be in Magdalen Road this morning for the food festival.

"This is what safe, open, people-friendly streets can do. It’s wonderful. It works."

Former Green councillor and Oxford Lord Mayor Elise Benjamin was in agreement and said: "This is what a 15 minute neighbourhood looks like."

"We have over 100 small, local businesses on Magdalen Road, as well as over 500 residents," she said.

"Yesterday people came out in force to shop local, putting money into the local economy."
