Plans for a new family residential centre in an Oxfordshire town have prompted noise concerns.

Applicant Alexandra Collins would like to introduce the "unique" hub to Park Road in Didcot which would provide a 24/7 care setting for nine parents with babies under 18 months old.

In a supporting statement, Ms Collins said: "This unique property will be rented by myself from the owner on a long-term lease, to be used as an OFSTED registered Family Residential Centre.

"I am a social worker in Oxfordshire and have been working in fostering within OCC. This has given me knowledge of the desperate need for residential spaces within the county."

But an objection has been raised on the South Oxfordshire District Council planning portal by Duncan Talbot, a resident of Ernest Road.

Mr Talbot said: "While I fully the support the need for a Family Residential Centre, I am somewhat concerned about external noise levels from the busy Park Road junction.

"I am also concerned that if vehicle access outside the premises is at capacity, additional usage may overspill into Edmonds Court which is already at maximum as a result of sanctioning a new build property at the rear of the close."

Ms Collins insists the setting will provide a "truly therapeutic support, with a therapist working with the families weekly".

She concluded: "The aim is to support parents to become agentic, independent, valuable members of society who need less input from adult social care."
