Girlguiding Oxfordshire has teamed up with an Oxford hospice to launch a limited-edition challenge badge as part of a city-wide art installation project.

OxTrail is Oxfordshire's first ever art sculpture trail and is raising funds for Sobell House Hospice. It will take place for eight weeks from July 6.

Around 85 schools and community groups will decorate mini oxen that will be displayed in mini 'herds' across the county in libraries, hotels and community spaces.

Girlguiding Oxfordshire are currently fundraising for four mini oxen. This will be one each for the Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers.

These oxen will be displayed in Westgate Shopping Centre in Oxford city centre.

The challenge badges are £1.50 each plus post and packaging, and are available online to all girl guides across the UK.

The sale of these badges will go towards funding for the sculptures, with a target of £4,000 for Sobell House.

Sarah Cheetham from Girlguiding Oxfordshire, said: "The OxTrail Challenge badge is made up of six sections designed to encourage discussion and awareness of feelings.

"It looks at some key areas that are important to the patients, and families, at Sobell House.

"Each section has a variety of activities and can be completed during their weekly meetings.

“We are incredibly excited to be involved with this spectacular Oxfordshire event, we created the challenge badge as we believe it is very important we ensure our young members understand the importance of the cause.”

Amelia Foster, CEO at Sobell House Hospice Charity, added: "Community is at the heart of this project, so we are very excited to see the Girlguiding getting involved.

"The Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers have all done an incredible job decorating their oxen and we can’t wait for everyone to see them when the trail goes live this summer.”

In addition to the trail, Sobell House has joined forces with Oxford Brookes University to launch the OxTrail Learning Programme.

This programme has reached more than 37,580 young people, providing them with educational tools.

OxTrail is a collaboration with Wild in Art, which has had installations in cities around the world including Manchester, Sydney, Cape Town and São Paulo.

After the trail finishes, many of the sculptures will be auctioned off to fund the work that Sobell House Hospice does.

The hospice cares for adults with a life-limiting illness and supports their loved ones.

This care is delivered at home, in its inpatient unit, in hospitals, and through its Living Well service.

It supports up to 650 people across Oxfordshire at any given time.
