A pet tarantula found in Wallingford has been safely reunited with its owner after being missing for three weeks.

A public post on social media platform Facebook led to Charlotte the tarantula being safely returned to her owner, 7-year-old Theo Kyriacou.

Commenting on the post, Theo's dad, Charlie Kyriacou said: "I can't believe you found her.

"Thank you so much for getting her safe."

He added: "We have just got back in town and everyone is asking us about her.

"Charlotte is one and a half years old and we have had her since she was the size of a 5p coin as a spiderling."

Charlotte disappeared after Theo left the feeding hatch open.

The tarantula had been spotted by a member of the public in the Goldsmith Lane car park.

Oxford Mail:

Jordan Hammond, who lives in the town, said her friend Paige found Charlotte on her way to work.

She noticed the traffic was stopping and that there was a tarantula on the road, so she quickly hopped out and secured the spider in her takeaway cup.

Ms Hammond said: "When she phoned to tell us we didn’t believe her to start with - I didn’t believe it until I arrived in town and she showed me.

"Luckily, a few people knew the spider belonged to a little boy from the pub and knew it was missing, so it didn’t take us too long to get in contact with the owners.

"We are all amazed it’s been found safe after three weeks."
