As many as 192 new Oxfordshire homes have been given the go-ahead after planning permission was granted.

The Wellington Gate site on Liberator Lane in Grove is to receive just short of 200 new homes after Vale of White Horse District Council's planning committee granted planning permission.

Developer Persimmon Homes is in charge of the site and described the news as a “boost for local aspiring homeowners” after securing approval last week for the next phase of development.

The Wellington Gate site, situated on the old airfield between Wantage and Grove, will have 2,500 “high-quality” homes constructed for local people once complete.

Two primary schools, serviced land for a secondary school, community hub and sports facilities are also being promised as part of the development.

Play pitches, play areas, public open spaces and allotments also feature as part of the new sustainable community plan.

Persimmon Homes Wessex deputy managing director, Seb Spiller, said: “We’re very pleased to have secured permission for the next phase of development at Wellington Gate.

A wide range of new homes will be available for local people by Persimmon’s Wessex region and its sister brand, Charles Church.

As part of the planning permission and wider community benefit, Persimmon will also transfer 51 properties in the next phase to a housing association.

The masterplan for Wellington Gate is based on a Green Infrastructure Strategy, developed "to create a connected, multi-functional network of green spaces and corridors".

Another step towards this was taken last month when St John’s Church of England Primary School was officially opened at the site.

Having welcomed its initial cohort of pupils in September, the school and attached nursery will continue to expand its year groups until full.

Children will progress to a secondary school which the builders are constructing on land provided by Persimmon, with an opening set for September 2025.

Two, three, four and five-bed properties are currently available for purchase at the site from £274,995.
