Oxford United manager Des Buckingham's old school was buzzing on Monday as pupils celebrated the team's incredible promotion to the Championship.

Students at Our Lady's Catholic Primary School in Cowley sported U's shirts with flags or scarves, some of which had been bought when they went to watch the match at Wembley.

Many more of the children had watched Saturday's game against Bolton Wanderers, which Oxford won 2-0, on TV.

He played for the U's youth sides while at the school before joining the coaching staff aged 18.

He was appointed manager in November 2023.

Headteacher Tara Davies said: "What a fabulous day at Wembley.

"We are so proud of Oxford United and everyone involved in the club. What they have achieved is nothing short of amazing and we were thrilled to be part of it.

"Des started his primary school years at Our Lady’s Catholic Primary School in the early 90s and we are so proud to have been a small part of his journey.

"We are so delighted for him, his family and for all of the team and their families.

"They have united our city and they have inspired a generation of young people.

"As a very sporting school, we always encourage our children to aim for the very best.

"Oxford United's achievement has shown that this is possible as several former pupils have progressed to being professional sports men and women both in football and in other sports."

Before the match the school recorded their own version of Que Sera Sera for Radio Oxford with their own verses which was sent to Mr Buckingham.

"Because of our video, several families purchased tickets for the final and were present in Wembley.
