The Met Office has forecast rain in Oxfordshire following a scorching Sunday, bringing an end to the weekend's balmy weather.

Yesterday Chertsey in Surrey recording the warmest temperature of 27.5C across the country, while 25.3C was recorded in Usk in South Wales, the Met Office said. 

The temperature records for the year were broken three times over the past week, with Thursday, Saturday and then Sunday seeing increasingly hot temperatures across the country.

Tonight in Oxford clouds will continue to thicken from the west into the evening, bringing rain across the area which could become fairly persistent through the small hours of tomorrow (May 14) morning, according to the Met Office

Winds will be mostly light with a minimum temperature 13C.

Tomorrow is set to start cloudy with outbreaks of rain, clearing from the west through the afternoon with a few sunny spells developing.

Winds are expected to be generally light, though perhaps breezy towards the coast, with a maximum temperature of 18C.

The rest of week is set to be clear with temperatures rising to 20C on Friday (May 17).
