A retired postman from Bicester recently interviewed a famous musician for his show at the radio station where he has been a volunteer for 45 years.

Former Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) cellist Mel Gale was interviewed by Martin Kinch on his Monday night programme at Stoke Mandeville Hospital Radio.

Mr Gale reminisced about his days with the band in the 1970s, when they toured globally and made a record eight appearances at Wembley Arena.

He played on three albums, 'Face the Music', 'A New World Record, and 'Out Of The Blue', which included some of the band's biggest hits.

Fans phoned in with questions for Mr Gale, who praised the hospital radio's facilities and volunteers.

One avid listener was so thrilled he made a substantial contribution to the charity-run station.

Mr Kinch, originally a postman, has volunteered for the station for more than 45 years since joining in January 1979.

Last year, he featured as a guest on Ken Bruce's radio show on Greatest Hits Radio.

The show was recorded at Stoke Mandeville Hospital Radio to mark the 75th anniversary of the NHS.

Mr Kinch was one of the different guests that were interviewed for the show by Mr Bruce and spoke about how times had changed since he started.

Mr Bruce also spoke about his time on hospital radio and why he felt it remained important.

Mr Kinch's show airs every Monday evening at 6pm.
