A JURY has acquitted of man of abusing his former partner after it was alleged he had threatened her with a knife.

Daniel Grant, of Piers Row, Deddington, was charged with one count each of controlling and coercive behaviour, assault by beating, possession of a bladed article and two counts of breaching a non-molestation order – all of which he denied.

The 38-year-old was accused of controlling his former partner by forcing her to come off her mental health medication, choosing what she ate despite a food intolerance, checking her phone, accusing her of cheating and criticising the way she looked.

Grant allegedly then assaulted the woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, outside a pub in Deddington, near Bicester, after she filed a non-molestation order against him.

However, after a trial at Oxford Crown Court, a jury on Friday (May 3) found Grant not guilty all counts bar one of breaching the non-molestation order.

They also could not reach a verdict on the possession of a bladed article count so were dismissed on this charge.

Grant will appear in court at a later date to see if there will be a retrial sought for this count.

He was also charged with one count of sexual assault but this was dismissed halfway through the trial after the prosecution formally offered no evidence.
