It was heard that at about 7.20am on February 16, police were called to a report of a man shouting at a woman in Friars Walk.
On attendance, police officers found Rayson, and the woman, aged in her forties, who was terrified and injured.
Rayson, who was the victim’s partner, had made her stay outside all night with him, not letting her leave him.
He had complained that he was cold and became angry at the victim, before pulling a quilt from underneath her and demanding that she get up.
The defendant then grabbed the victim and punched her repeatedly, with such force he knocked her to the floor and then kicked her.
