A pupil has been praised for volunteering at a town pre-school.

Alicia, a year 10 pupil at Wallingford School, picked up her first Unit Award Scheme Certificate.

She has been visiting Rainbow Pre-School twice a week with a member of staff October and will continue to visit until the end of the school year.

John Marston is headteacher of Wallingford School.

He says on the school's website: " I am proud of our students who are fantastic young people whose enthusiasm, commitment, talent and humour make it a joy to come to school every day; I am proud of our staff who are so dedicated to inspiring, supporting and guiding our students to fulfil their potential; and I am proud that our school is comprehensive and embedded at the heart of its local community of the town of Wallingford and the surrounding villages."

Rainbow Pre-School is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

The pre-school website says: "Rainbow Pre-School has a long history since its founding in 1974.

"It used to be located in the Bull Croft Park for 46 years, until it moved to Millington Road in Wallingford in March 2020. There, it is attached to a care home called Westgate House, which is a modern and re-furbished facility.

"This is a rare and innovative partnership, as Rainbow Pre-School is only the second setting in the UK that is connected to a Care Home. Research shows that this type of collaboration has many benefits and is something that other settings aspire to."
