Oxford United have reported a “slight increase” in anti-social behaviour in recent home games as the club’s play-off chasing season nears its conclusion.

The club said the use of discriminatory and offensive language has been more noticeable at recent games at Kassam Stadium while fans have also been caught with pyrotechnics.

A statement from the club warned told fans they have a “zero-tolerance approach” to anti-social behaviour and will be “proactive” with sanctions.

The warning comes ahead of tonight’s game to Stevenage live on Sky Sports with the U’s looking to finish the season in the play-off spots.

The club reminded fans to not enter the pitch after the full-time whistle as the players and their families will take part in a lap of honour for the last home game of the regular season.

The club statement said: “As we approach the end of the 2023/24 season, Oxford United would like to thank the fans for their continued support throughout the season, while reminding supporters of the importance of their behaviour both in and out of the stadium.

“The support you offer helps to create an incredible atmosphere up and down the country as you help spur the team to victory.

“However, we would again like to emphasise that the club will not tolerate any discriminatory and offensive language, while we also ask that you maintain our club policy when it comes to fan behaviour.

“In recent home games, the club has seen a slight increase in incidents with individuals engaging in anti-social behaviours, such as using discriminatory language or being in possession of pyrotechnics.

“Oxford United takes a zero-tolerance approach to these behaviours. We would like to remind supporters at this crucial stage of the season for the Men’s First-Team that we do not condone such behaviours and we ask you to help us stamp out any offensive language and use of pyrotechnics.”

“With Friday night’s game at home to Stevenage the final regular season match at the Kassam, we also like to remind fans to not enter the pitch at any stage, including after the full-time whistle, as the players and their families take part in a lap of honour to thank you for your overall support.

“In what is an exciting time for the football club as we look to reach the Sky Bet League One play-offs, we would like to ensure all supporters attending games both home and away feel they are coming into a safe and inclusive environment.

“These measures allow our supporters to enjoy the atmosphere and passion of an Oxford United match in a safe space.”
