Police have released a new image after staff at a wine shop were threatened with what is believed to be a gun during an attempted robbery.

The incident occurred at Eynsham Cellars in Mill Street as an offender entered and threatened a staff member who was a woman in her 40s.

She was threatened with a weapon at around 7pm on Friday, April 12, Thames Valley Police has said.

The offender then put a bag on the counter and told the staff member to fill it with money.

She then ran into the back of the shop and the offender then ran off down John Lopes Road, then Evans Road and into Back Lane Car Park, police have said.

Police say that nothing was stolen and have since released a second CCTV image of a man who officers wish to speak to.

The force believes he may have vital information about the attempted robbery.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Matthew Leney said: “I understand this attempted robbery may cause some concern but luckily incidents involving firearms are very rare.

“While nothing was stolen and no one was physically injured, we do not underestimate the impact this sort of incident can cause on those involved.

“We are investigating this attempted robbery as a priority and are releasing this CCTV image of a man we would like to speak to as we believe he may have vital information about it.

“I appreciate the quality of the image is not great but I believe it may be enough for someone to identify the man pictured.

“I am appealing to anybody who recognises this man, or the man himself, to please come forward as soon as possible."
