The young boy was in the back of a Ford Focus when it collided with a KTM motorcycle on the B4011 in Blackthorn near Bicester at the junction with Thame Road at around 2pm on Sunday (April 14).

A teddy bear and a spider man figure are among the floral tributes at the scene.  Witness appeal signs have also been placed on the road near the scene.

The rider of the motorbike, a man aged in his 40s, was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford with serious injuries.

Several days after the crash the motorcyclist remains in hospital with serious injuries. 

The driver of the Ford Focus, a woman in her 30s and a nine-year-old child, were also treated in hospital for less serious injuries. Both the driver and the nine-year-old child have been discharged from hospital. 

Tributes have continued to be paid from across the county in the Oxford Mail's book of condolence following the news.

Sophia Howie wrote: “My heart goes out to all the family and friends of this little boy who is only a year younger than my son.

“This really hit home for me. I am lost for words.”

Jamie, who did not provide his surname, added: “Sending the family and friends so much love. I cannot begin to feel your pain but I hope you feel the love and support. RIP little one.”

No arrests have been made as Thames Valley Police has launched an appeal for witnesses following the incident.

Lead investigator Phil Hanham of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, based in Bicester, said: “Very sadly, as a result of this collision, a child has died of his injuries.

"His family are being supported by specially trained family liaison officers and the thoughts of all of us at Thames Valley Police are with them at this extremely upsetting time.

“I would like to appeal to anybody who witnessed this collision to please get in touch with Thames Valley Police.

“I am particularly looking to hear from anyone who may have been driving in the area and who has dash-cam which has captured the collision, or the moments leading up to it, to please contact us.
