A George Clooney superfan has spoken about the thrill of seeing the Hollywood star in the flesh after waiting around for 45 minutes in Oxford.

Oscar Brett, 18, travelled from Witney to the city centre on Friday lunchtime after finding out through the Oxford Mail that Mr Clooney would be in Oxford. 

Mr Clooney and his wife Amal were addressing the Skoll World Forum at the New Theatre in George Street.

This is a foundation set up in 1999 to "build a sustainable world of peace and prosperity for all".

And Mr Brett, who will soon be studying theatre at university, stood around for 45 minutes in George Street to get a glimpse of the movie star. 

The superfan said: "I am a massive film fan and a filmmaker myself.

"I heard from the Oxford Mail he was going to be making an appearance in Oxford this afternoon and I hopped straight onto a bus.

"I was waiting around for a bit but he eventually came out. He is so strikingly handsome.

"There was surprisingly not that many people waiting outside for him. I think it was because it was kept under wraps." 

Mr Clooney has received numerous accolades during his movie career including a British Academy Film Award, four Golden Globe Awards, and two Academy Awards.

The 62-year-old has a property close to the Oxfordshire border in Berkshire. 

Mr Brett said his favourite films featuring the Kentucky-born actor are a Ticket to Paradise and Fantastic Mr Fox.

The teenager recalled trying to get closer to the Hollywood star before he emerged outside.

Mr Brett said: "They had the stage door around the back by the pub. I tried to go down there but security would not let me past. 

"I was waiting by the road on the corner and I got to see him come out with his wife and get into a car. 

"There was a lot of security. I was not sure if it was just for him or for the event itself.

"They would not let me get close and he was only outside for a second but that was enough to see him and it was totally worth it." 

After seeing his hero in the flesh, a satisfied Mr Brett was able to hop straight back on a bus to Witney after sharing a video of the film star with the Oxford Mail.

This year’s forum has been running since Tuesday this week and concluded on Friday.

This is not Mr Clooney’s first time in the area though as the Hollywood actor met members of the Oxford University Women's Boat Club and Oxford University Boat Club in 2022.
