North Oxfordshire residents have just days left to register to vote in the upcoming elections.
If you are not yet registered, the deadline is Tuesday, April 16. On Thursday, May 2, locals will vote for councillors and the Police and Crime Commissioner for the Thames Valley area. If you have moved, changed your name, or recently turned 18, you'll need to register before midnight on April 16.
Returning officer Gordon Stewart said: "Registering to vote only takes five minutes. The council elections are an important opportunity for people to have their say on who is representing them in their communities. To have your say on May 2, make sure you are registered to vote before midnight on April 16."
To vote at a polling station, photo ID is required. This could be a passport, driving licence, or specific travel cards. If you don't have any of these, you can apply for free ID. You'll need to make this application by 5pm on April 24. You also have the option to vote in person, by post, or you can choose someone to vote on your behalf, known as a proxy vote.
In addition to other elections, one-third of parish and town councils also have elections. In Deddington, a referendum on a new Neighbourhood Plan is taking place. Information on who is standing in elections can be accessed on Cherwell District Council’s website. This website also offers advice about voting at polling stations, ID requirements and postal and proxy voting.
