An art project is giving residents the chance to enhance Banbury Cross.

Cherwell District Council’s arts initiative, Round and Round, has been formed in collaboration with artist Anne-Marie Cadman and focuses on reducing, reusing, and recycling.

The project will repurpose the old floral display frames from Banbury Cross roundabout into four new structures.

These four structures - three hobby horses and a sun - will host temporary textile installations from May to September.

Nicola Riley, assistant director of wellbeing and housing services at the council, said: "Trying your hand at something you’ve not done before is a great way to make friends, learn new skills and boost your mood.

"We are proud to provide residents with the opportunity to come together to create something that reflects the heart and spirit of the Banbury community."

Ms Cadman said: "The aim of the initiative is for participants to have fun and harness their creativity with the techniques on offer, use some vibrant recycled materials and bring the outcomes together for four eye-catching community arts installations."

Free sessions open to all are planned in the High Street's Orinoco store on April 2, 3 and 5, and during Springfest at the Hill on April 4.

Another event is scheduled at the Mill Arts Centre on April 11.

Bookings are required for the latter and can be made by calling 01295 227177 or emailing laura.walker@themillartscentre.co.uk or jane.sperinck@themillartscentre.co.uk.
