Two schools in Headington have legally merged to form a single, all-through institution.
Headington School Oxford and Rye St Antony School have merged to form Headington Rye Oxford.
The change for pupils and staff isn’t set to take effect until September.
Following this, the new school will house a prep school for pupils aged three to 11 at the Rye site and girls aged 11-18 at the Headington senior school site.
Headington Rye Oxford will be led by Headington headmistress Caroline Jordan and Headington Rye Oxford Prep School will be led by Jane Crouch, currently the head of prep at Headington.
Plans to enhance the combined school’s curriculum are underway, targeting a broader spectrum of subjects at both GCSE and A Level.
Students and staff have already started familiarising themselves through academic, social, and sporting events.
Ms Jordan said: "As we have started to work together over the last few months, it has been tremendously exciting seeing pupils and staff starting to get to know each other.
"Our school has a bright and inspiring future and the journey of developing and building our new school community together is truly thrilling."
The new school is aiming for a wider range of extracurricular opportunities including food and nutrition, ballet, dance, and music technology.
Headington’s hair of Governors, Oster Warriner, will chair the Headington Rye Oxford governing body, and Carla Stanley and Kate Ringham will serve as joint vice chairs.
