A RESTAURANT manager from Abingdon died after being found unresponsive near the River Ock.

Niketa Aird, 20, of Longmead, Abingdon, was found unresponsive near the river on September 19 last year at about 12.30pm.

An inquest at Oxford Coroner’s Court heard that she was discovered by her ex-partner whom she had texted indicating where she would be.

He called the emergency services who gave her medical assistance and took her to the John Radcliffe Hospital but she remained unresponsive and was pronounced dead at 1.30pm on September 20.

Her medical cause of death was provided as hypoxic brain injury, asphyxiation and depression.

The inquest heard Niketa had been struggling with her mental health in the months leading up to her death and was being medicated for anxiety and depression.

Assistant coroner Joanna Coleman ruled a conclusion of suicide.
