Tributes have been paid to a young man described as being “kind-hearted” with his organs already going on to save at least two lives.

The 20-year-old from Benson, who friends and family refer to as TJ, died in hospital following a crash into a wall after he was involved in a police chase on Thursday, March 7 at around 9.30pm.

His full name has not been disclosed at this stage.

The police pursuit took place on the B480 through Chiselhampton.

Moments after the pursuit, a black Vauxhall Astra smashed into a wall outside the front of a home opposite the Coach and Horses pub.

Flowers, candles and a wreath were left at the remains of the destroyed wall while a GoFundMe fundraiser has been set up in the victim's name.

The fundraiser described TJ’s own wish to donate his organs as a “direct reflection of the type of lad he truly was” saying he would "do anything to help anyone".

Set up by Krystyna Collins, the fundraiser reads: “This appeal comes with great sadness following TJ leaving this earth and joining an army of angels.

“Those who knew TJ would remember him as a kind-hearted, fun, loving soul.

“He was always smiling and would do anything to help anyone, and would always be prepared to extend his love for whoever it was that needed it.

“His family have followed his wishes and donated his organs to help save and change the lives of others, a direct reflection of the type of lad he truly was.

“At the time of this appeal, he has already given at least two people the chance of a new lease of life.

“This has been a very sudden, saddening loss to all those close to TJ."

The money raised will be used to help with funeral costs.

The fundraiser added: “We would love to support his family in giving TJ the funeral and final goodbye that he absolutely deserves.

“Please join us in efforts to make that happen, the money raised will be used to help with funeral costs and celebrating his life that was taken too soon.”

At the time of writing, the GoFundMe page has raised almost £1,700 with more than 60 people donating.

Writing in a book of condolence set up by the Oxford Mail, Clare Debanks said: “RIP TJ. Taken far too soon.

“You were such a good soul with a heart of gold rest in eternal peace.

“My heart goes out to your mum, dad, brother and sister.”

A 23-year-old passenger from Wallingford was also taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital and has since been discharged.

The force made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to the crash occurring after a police chase.

An IOPC spokesperson said the pursuing officer had "disengaged" with the car before the crash and that Thames Valley Police must carry out an investigation.

The independent body added that if the investigation does not identify any conduct issues, the force must provide a copy of its final report for the IOPC to review.
