A 100-year-old Witney resident has revealed his secret to living a long life.
Cyril John Holt, known as John by his loved ones, is a resident of Millers Grange care home, and celebrated his centenary earlier this year.
Mr Holt credited his longevity to "keeping fit" and being part of a family.
His 100th birthday was commemorated at the care home, with family joining him for a celebration with balloons and banners.
The home's head chef baked a cake for the birthday bash.
Children from St Hugh of Lincoln Nursery in Witney joined Mr Holt for a birthday visit, and found out what Mr Holt's childhood was like.
Mr Holt received numerous birthday cards, including one from King Charles, which was accompanied by a life-sized cut-out of the King.
Mr Holt said: "I have had the most wonderful day.
"I had lunch out with my family, then a lovely party with family and my friends in the home.
"I do not feel any different. I can’t believe I have lived to 100.
"It was nice to see the nursery children, and they sang happy birthday to me, they visit every Friday."
Home manager at Millers Grange, Alison Parry, added: "John is a much-loved resident here at Millers Grange and we all had a wonderful time celebrating his special day.
"Everyone had a wonderful time toasting John’s birthday and listening to him share memories from his long, happy life.
"We’re all incredibly privileged to have John as part of the Millers Grange family – happy birthday."
Born in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, in 1924, Mr Holt relocated to Stonesfield, Oxfordshire, after his retirement.
He served in the British Army as a Sergeant for four years during World War Two, stationed in Italy where he witnessed an eruption from Mount Vesuvius in May 1944.
Mr Holt, once an accountant, married his wife Mary in 1947.
They have one daughter, two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Mr Holt said being part of his family is one of the reasons for his lasting life.
He would cook a dinner for nine or more family members every year at Christmas until he was in his 90s.
He dedicates his spare time to gardening and maintaining the home’s allotment, playing cards, enjoying days out, and ensuring his fitness.
Millers Grange provides full-time residential, dementia, and end-of-life care, and it has its own cinema and hair salon.
