A man has died after he was involved in a police chase through an Oxfordshire village.
The incident occurred at around 9.25pm on Thursday, March 7, when a black Vauxhall Astra overtook an unmarked police vehicle on the incorrect side of the road on the B480 in Chiselhampton.
Thames Valley Police officers illuminated their blue lights to signal the vehicle to stop, but it continued at speed into the village.
The Astra then collided with a wall in the village and the two occupants of the vehicle were taken to hospital.
The driver, a man aged in his 20s, was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, but since succumbed to his injuries.
The passenger was also treated in hospital but has since been discharged.
A spokesperson for the force said: “The family of the man who has died continues to be supported by specially trained family liaison officers.
“A mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to the collision occurring following police contact.”
Inspector Scott Long of the Roads Policing Unit added: “First and foremost, my thoughts and the thoughts of all of us at Thames Valley Police are with the family and friends of the man who has sadly died.
