The iconic Bakery on the Water in Bourton-on-the-Water and Bakery on the Hill in Oxfordshire have been bought over by Swiss restaurateur Alexander Clavel and executive chef Narda Franco.

The pair has spent the past few months modernising the popular establishments with new baked goods, culinary creations and an exciting range of changes to enhance the dining experience.

As the new owners of these landmark bakeries, the duo are focused on building on the rich legacy of both establishments while bringing new elements to delight locals and visitors.

Mr Clavel said: "We are thrilled to be part of the Bakery on the Water and Bakery on the Hill family. Our goal is to create an exceptional casual culinary experience that pays homage to the heritage of these establishments while introducing exciting innovations."

Guests can now enjoy an expanded menu featuring artisanal bread, pastries, cakes and savoury delights made by Ms Franco and her team.

Ingredients are sourced from local producers, ensuring each product meets the standards of taste and freshness.

Ingredients include bacon from Jesse Smith, sausages from Old Farm Dorn, milled flour from Shipston-on-Stour, local honey, locally roasted coffee from Rave, and river trout fished, smoked and hand-sliced in Bibury.

Their new Spring/Summer menu includes gourmet toasted panini like Tomato, Mozzarella & Pesto, Chicken Parmigiana and Kimchee and Cheddar, plus fresh salads.

Not limited to changes in kitchen, the bakeries have undergone a transformation with a redesigned space to create a welcoming and inviting ambience.

In response to the changing needs of the community, the Bakery on the Water now features a dedicated co-working room with free high-speed internet, an ideal location for remote work or meetings.

Additionally, with its latest upgrades and delivery vehicles, wholesale operations have started, enabling the bakery to supply nearby cafes, pubs and hotels with fresh breads, scones, tray-bakes and pastries.

Both bakeries are now open seven days a week for the convenience of their patrons, allowing them to indulge in freshly baked treats and culinary delights.

Ms Franco said: "We are excited to bring our passion for quality cuisine to Bourton on the Water and Oxfordshire.

"We hope that our commitment to excellence and creativity will be evident in every bite."

The new owners are focused on maintaining the charm and warmth that customers love, while ushering in a new era of food experience and community engagement.
