Drivers in Oxfordshire now have increased parking app options due to Oxfordshire County Council's expansion of on-street coverage.

Previously successful at one location, the Open Market model is now in place at the remaining 43 on-street locations, including Oxford.

Enabled by the Department for Transport's National Parking Platform, an open market allows for cashless parking payment choices.

This fosters competition between providers, aiming to provoke innovation and improving user experiences.

RingGo is one of the four cashless parking providers accessible via the platform.

Councils across the UK, like Manchester, Coventry, and Cheshire West and Chester, are participating in the pilot.

The platform's success has led to plans for at least an additional 10 councils to join in 2024, and a nationwide rollout starting in Autumn.

Peter O’Driscoll, managing director at RingGo, said: "It’s great to see further uptake of the Open Market model in Oxfordshire.

"The future of parking involves increased choice for motorists, and the NPP can provide this in the palm of your hand.

"It has the power to revolutionise parking."

Emma K Liptrot, senior officer at Oxfordshire County Council, said: ''RingGo has seamlessly facilitated Oxfordshire's transition to the National Parking Platform, simplifying access and enhancing efficiency, paving the way for a smarter, more sustainable future in our county''.

According to RingGo research, simplification and choice in parking are increasingly preferred, with 83 per cent of motorists in favour of a single parking app for nationwide use.
