A man in Oxfordshire was detained by police after walking away from a petrol station without paying.

The incident happened at the ESSO fuel station in Abingdon on the evening of Tuesday, March 5.

Thames Valley Police were patrolling when they witnessed a man fill up two containers with petrol before making off on foot having not paid for the fuel.

Despite trying to get away, the man actually ran towards the police station much to the police’s amusement with the force taking to social media to relay the news.

Thames Valley Police Rural Crime Taskforce’s Facebook post said: “PC Bowers witnessed a male fill two containers with fuel at ESSO in Abingdon and then make off on foot, without making payment.

“After running past the unmarked police car and presumably not realising he was running towards the police station the male was detained and dealt with by local officers.”
