Magdalen College Chapel has been illuminated to raise awareness of rare diseases.

The chapel was lit up for the 'Global Chain of Lights' initiative which took place on Rare Disease Day on February 29 - the rarest day of the year.

The initiative aims to raise awareness of the 400 million people affected by rare diseases worldwide.

A disease is classed as rare when it affects fewer than one in 2000 people.

It is estimated there are more than 3.5 million people living with a rare condition in the UK.

The Oxford-Harrington Rare Disease Centre is a partnership between the University of Oxford and the Harrington Institute in Ohio, aimed at making breakthroughs to address the unmet need for rare disease treatments.
