Tributes have flooded in from the community for a 33-year-old man, named locally as Tobias Bruce, who died in hospital (February 28).

Police were called to College Lane in Littlemore at around 6.05pm on Sunday (February 25) as two men, aged 33 and 28, were hospitalised with stab wounds.

The 28-year-old has been discharged from the hospital, however, the death of the 33-year-old has sparked a murder investigation.

Reverend Margreet Armitstead at St Mary and St Nicholas church in Littlemore said: “We're tremendously saddened by the latest news.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Tobias Bruce and all others involved.

 “The church will be open for prayer, to light a candle or if you'd like to talk with someone in the coming days between 4pm to 6pm or by request.

 “We're here for you, we pray for peace and calm in our community.”

Tributes have continued to be made from people who knew Mr Bruce.

James Dyer wrote: “RIP Tobias, only saw you in town what two weeks ago.

“I will remember the jokes at school back in the day.

“A life taken away too soon. My thoughts are with the family. Rest easy pal.”

Angela Turner said: “I am still in shock and our hearts are broken.

“You were loved by so many people, taken too soon by such a selfish act.

“It’s unforgivable. You will always be in our hearts. Rest in peace cousin.”

Jah Lawrence said: “Rest in peace brother, shame you had to go like this.

“I'll never forget all the memories we had together and the town days outside McDonald's, rest in peace brother.”

Naomi, who didn’t give her surname, said: “Another life cut short. You will be missed by many. Fly high.”

One person, who asked to remain anonymous, said: “My family and I, who are fellow residents of Littlemore, would like to send our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of the man who sadly lost his life.

“No one should have their life taken away in such a way. No one should lose a loved one at the hands of someone else.

“Our hearts go out to you all at such a sad time.”

A 41-year-old man from Headington has been arrested on suspicion of two counts of attempted murder. 

A 30-year-old man from Botley has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of a specific controlled drug above the specified limit.

A 57-year-old woman from Headington has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

They have all been released on bail.

Cowley Road was reopened by police on Tuesday afternoon (February 27) after the road had been cordoned off since Sunday evening. 

The cordon remained in place throughout Monday (February 26) as forensics teams carried out investigations.

A 33-year-old man, previously arrested on suspicion of attempted murder has been released with no further action.

The victim’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially-trained officers.

“We believe that this is an isolated incident and that there is no wider risk to the public.
