Emergency services were called to a house fire on a busy city road which led to traffic chaos as the road was shut.
The incident occurred at a house in Cowley Road, close to Marsh Road, at around 12.30pm on Wednesday.
Firefighters could be seen tackling the blaze at a house with one fire engine present at the scene with a ladder used to reach an upstairs bedroom.
Several bus routes across the city were altered as a result of the ongoing emergency incident with some services diverted via Iffley Road.
A spokesperson for Stagecoach Oxfordshire said: “Due to a fire we are unable to service the Cowley road we are diverting via Iffley Road in both directions.”
An Oxford Bus Company spokesperson added: “Due to an incident in Cowley Road, near Marsh Road services 5, 5A, and 11 may be subject to delay and alteration.
“The severity of the incident is not yet known, we will provide updates as we receive them.
“We apologise for any inconvenience.”
Firefighters battled the blaze and were able to start leaving the scene just over an hour later with Oxford Bus Company confirming services had returned to normal.
“We can confirm Cowley Road is now reopened and our services are back on their regular routes. Thank you for your patience,” added the spokesperson.
Oxfordshire County Council has been approached for further details by the Oxford Mail.
