An Oxford restaurant has been crowned the best Greek in the south of England and Wales.

The Greek Takeaway won the award at the 2024 Deliveroo Restaurant Awards.

The awards, which highlight the most popular independent eateries across the UK and Ireland, were decided through votes by customers.

The Greek Takeaway, which serves a blend of traditional kebabs and gyros, beat competition from across the region to bag the honour.

Manol Mitre, founder of The Greek Takeaway, said: "We are overjoyed to have won the Deliveroo award for Best Greek in South of England & Wales.

"Thank you to everyone who gave us their vote - your support means the world.

"We hope to continue to serve award-winning Greek cuisine to the communities of Oxford for many years to come."

The awards also saw Dhamaka, an Indian restaurant based out of Bristol, named as the Independent Restaurant of the Year South England and Wales 2024.

Dhamaka - which means explosion - offers vibrant flavours and ingredients through their street-food-style dishes, including curry bowls and tandoori breads.

This year, a total of 60 awards were handed out, including the ‘Independent Restaurant of the Year’, won by Dublin-based Greek restaurant Yeeros and a range of ‘above and beyond categories’ such as Beating Heart of the Community, Rider Love, Most Sustainable Restaurant and Customer Innovation.

More than 66,000 votes were cast over a two-week period, naming more than 50 regional winners in categories ranging from Best Thai to Best Burger, Best Pizza, Best Chicken and more.

Votes were sourced from five regions in the UK and Ireland - London, South England and Wales, North England and East Midlands, Scotland, and Ireland

The 2024 Restaurant Awards results will be unveiled via Deliveroo’s social networks from February 21 as part of a social takeover spotlighting the 60 award winners, ensuring each one gets their moment of fame and recognition for their culinary contributions.
