Wallingford Rugby Club will host a cycle challenge which is raising funds for motor neurone disease.

The club will host a leg of Dodd1e'5 Gr4nd S7am cycle challenge, cycling from Edinburgh to Rome via all Six Nations Rugby grounds.

The team includes local man Rob Drury-Dryden, alongside former Rugby players Roger Baird, Huw Davies and Paul Volley.

On arrival at Wallingford around 12.30pm on March 2, following a visit to Grove RFC, the team will continue on to Bracknell RFC and then Twickenham, before embarking on a ferry at Newhaven.

10 cyclists from Wallingford RFC will join the team on the leg to Bracknell.

On that day alone, they aim to cover 390km of the entire 2990 km journey.

The club plans to provide hot food and physiotherapy for the riders coinciding with their vice presidents lunch.

Each team member's number commemorates rugby legends Doddie Weir, Paul 'the Judge' Rendell, Rob Burrow and Ed Slater, all of whom were diagnosed with motor neurone disease.

Doddie poignantly highlighted the issue, stating, "MND is not incurable, it's just underfunded."

The club is inviting locals to join in cheering the team, and stay to watch the Wallingford RFC Firsts compete against Rams 3s.

The club raised £1675 for the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation in January and said they "hope to be a memorable part of their trip".
