A motorist managed to escape from a car which had left the A34 and crashed into hedges during Thursday morning's rush hour.

Emergency services responded to a crash involving two vehicles in the southbound carriageway between the M40 junction nine and Weston-on-the-Green.

The crash was reported by authorities at around 8.30am as eyewitnesses stated traffic was "horrendous" with tailbacks on the M40 and A41, as well as the A34.

Fire crews from Bicester Fire Station and Kidlington Fire Station attended the crash along with the ambulance service and police.

A statement from Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "One car left the carriageway and came to rest in the hedge down the embankment, luckily the occupant got themselves out of the vehicle before we had arrived.

"We closed lane one whilst we made the scene safe, and after liaising with South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust to ensure no persons were injured."

The road was fully reopened at around 10am.

Thames Valley Police has declined to comment on the crash.
