An Oxford College has said it is aware of a police incident after reports of one of its student being arrested in the city centre over the weekend.

A 19-year-old man was arrested following a Palestine protest outside Barclays in Oxford's Cornmarket Street at around 11.30am on Saturday.

Thames Valley Police issued a statement saying the man had been arrested on suspicion of aggravated trespass.

He has since been released on bail.

Oxford University's student newspaper The Oxford Student reported the person attends Balliol College.

When contacted for a comment on the incident by the Oxford Mail today, a spokeswoman for Balliol College said staff were aware of what took place.

She said: "The Master has asked me to say that the College is aware of the incident but has no comment to make."

The Oxford Mail received reports of masked protesters entering the Barclays bank on Saturday.

After being asked to leave the branch by officers, the protesters made their way down the road to Starbucks and entered the premises.

It comes after protesters set up outside Barclays in Cornmarket Street last month, waving Palestinian flags, placards and chanting, accusing the bank of “supporting genocide".

The Oxford Mail has contacted Thames Valley Police for an update on the arrest and to find out if anyone has been charged.

The force has not commented at this stage.
