Charities in Cherwell are being invited to apply for a grant worth up to £1,000.

The money comes from The Cherwell Lottery, a fundraising scheme run by Cherwell District Council.

The council has announced that a total of £10,000 is being offered through the scheme, initially launched in 2020.

The grant is specifically open to groups registered as Cherwell Lottery good causes.

Such groups can apply for a grant to support projects that align with the lottery's aim to foster "healthy, resilient and engaged communities".

Councillor Phil Chapman, portfolio holder for healthy and safe communities, said: "I want to thank all the people that take part in the lottery as players.

"Each ticket you buy really does make a difference to the lives of our residents and communities.

“Thanks to the funds raised by our players, local groups and organisations registered as lottery good causes can continue with their worthwhile work that benefits and supports everyone across the district.

"With our 2024 grant now accepting applications, I encourage any group registered as a Cherwell Lottery good cause to apply if they need help developing any current or future projects."

Participants in the lottery can choose to donate either to the central fund, which fuels the grant, or directly to a specific organisation.

The funds have so far supported more than 80 local causes.

Applications will close on February 23.
