A Thames Valley Police spokesperson said: “Tragically, we are able to confirm that a woman has died following a road traffic collision on the M40 southbound this morning.
“The carriageway will remain closed southbound until at least the early afternoon for investigative work.
"We would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding. Our thoughts are with the woman's next of kin, who have been made aware."
Vehicles are being turned around and sent back down the southbound carriageway away from where the road has been closed.
The AA has stated the crash involved a car and a lorry.
