AN inquest has been opened into the death of a woman involved a car crash on Christmas Day.

Jean Houston was killed in a crash on the A338 near East Hanney in the Wantage area at around 11.32am.

A red Mini Cooper and a white Peugeot 208 were involved and the other driver, a man in his 30s, has suffered life-changing injuries and was hospitalised.

An inquest into the 61-year-old’s death was opened at Oxford Coroner’s Court on Wednesday (January 17).

Beth Saith, a coroner’s officer, confirmed that Mrs Houston’s death is still under investigation.

Her death was verified on the day by paramedic Darren Weston.

They said: “Jean Elizabeth Houston. Loved and respected by all that know her. Your kindness towards others without hesitation, endeared you to us all.

“A happy-go-lucky attitude, an infectious giggle and smile. A deep love of animals and a sense of care. Always others first, a beautiful human being.”

Ms Houston’s family are being supported by specially trained Thames Valley Police officers, while the force continues its appeal for witnesses following the fatal crash.

The next hearing will take place at the same court on July 25 at 10am.
