A Berinsfield sports centre has unveiled a new 3G artificial turf pitch, following a £180,000 investment.
South Oxfordshire District Council owns the pitch at Abbey Sports Centre, replacing its predecessor which dated back to 2009 and had fallen into disrepair and was no longer playable.
The upgraded surface enhances safety for players and takes a stride towards environmental conservation with its chemical-free layout.
Improvement features include advanced LED lighting, robust fencing, and improved drainage systems around the pitch.
The project, completed earlier this week, started in October last year and tallied a cost of £179,647.
This cost was covered via the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) and a funding contribution from the Oxfordshire County Council as part of their Joint Use Agreement.
Cllr Maggie Filipova-Rivers, cabinet member for community wellbeing, said: "It’s great that we’re able to continue updating and improving the facilities at Abbey Sports Centre.
"Good quality facilities really improve the experience of playing sport which benefits the wellbeing and enjoyment of our residents and the range of sports and exercise options available at the centre."
Cllr Robin Bennett, cabinet member for economic development and regeneration, said: "I know that this new pitch is going to get a lot of use.
"It looks impressive, and the fact that it will require less maintenance and helps the environment as it doesn’t need treating with chemicals is a win-win.
"I hope to play a game myself here in the future."
Abbey Sports Centre is now opening the new pitch for bookings via the Better UK website, app, or through the centre.
