Episodes of ITV detective drama Endeavour are now being shown again on ITV3.

The popular Inspector Morse prequel came to an end in March after nine series.

But the series remains very popular with viewers and episodes are being re-run on ITV3.

Passenger from series five is being shown on ITV3 at 11pm tonight.

Morse suspects a connection between a woman's disappearance and the unsolved murder of a teenager.

Chris Sullivan, from Oxford, runs a website dedicated to Inspector Morse, Lewis and Endeavour, and has written a book about the Endeavour series, and about the Lewis series.

Here he chooses his top five Endeavour episodes.

1: "The pilot episode (also known among fans as The First Bus to Woodstock).

"The pilot episode did a wonderful job of not only satisfying fans of the original Morse series, but also those viewers who were simply viewing the episode as a one-off new drama and who had no knowledge of what the prequel was based on.

"Two scenes that had fans of the original series in tears was firstly Endeavour’s first meeting with Dorothea Frazil (Abigail Thaw) and her asking Morse ‘if they had met before’ and secondly the final scene where Thursday asked Morse where he saw himself in 20 years and the young Morse looks in the mirror and sees the eyes of John Thaw’s Morse."

2: Fugue.  (Series 1, Episode 2)

Oxford Mail: A scene from Fugue"This episode crammed in three murders, the introduction of the Thursday family, Win, Joan and Sam, the kidnap of a child, a serial killer, and a wonderful rooftop denouement.

"The episode moves at a cracking speed but never feels rushed. This episode introduced one of the Endeavour series best villains, Mason Gull."

3: Neverland. (Series 2, Episode 4)

Oxford Mail: A scene from Neverland"This episode sees the relationship between Thursday and Endeavour reach its apogee with Endeavour coming to the rescue of Thursday while the rest of Oxford Police turn their back on him.

"Jack Laskey is sublime as DS Peter Jakes who is trying to deal with his childhood demons."

4: Lazaretto (Series 4, Episode 3)

Oxford Mail: A scene from Lazaretto"This episode puts not only Endeavour through the proverbial wringer but also the viewer.

"The highlight of the episode, especially for fans of the original series, is Endeavour meeting Mrs Bryce Morgan the woman who was almost his mother-in-law.

"The episode deals with Endeavour’s girlfriends of the past (Susan Bryce Morgan), present (Monica Hicks) and possibly the future (Joan Thursday)."

5: Pylon (Series 6, Episode 1)

Oxford Mail: A scene from Pylon"Every great series needs a villain, someone for the audience to love to hate. That villain came in the shape of Ronnie Box wonderfully played by Simon Harrison.

"The episode deals with a dark subject in the shape of the death of a child but takes place in a sunny, bucolic idyll. The episode glides between the light and dark of locations, characters, and the emotional turmoil of Endeavour’s relationship with Joan."

Endeavour: The Complete Series - an unauthorised guide to Endeavour 2012-2023 is available on Amazon, and via the website.
