Three generations of a South Newington family staged a vigil outside Banbury Light cinema, highlighting ongoing child atrocities in Gaza.

The vigil marked the release of the film 'One Life', which narrates the actions of Norman Winton who rescued 669 children from Nazi death camps.

The Oxfordshire-based descendants of Nevill Barbour aimed to draw attention to what is happening to children in Gaza.

It is estimated there have been more than 1,000 children have undergone limb amputations without anaesthetics in Gaza since October 2023, with a further 5,000 killed.

Nicola Smith, Nevill Barbour's granddaughter, said: "We celebrate and honour the life of Norman Winton and all those who saved lives during World War II but we cannot do this without also calling out the massacre that is happening in front of our eyes today in Gaza."

She added: "It is the most appalling hypocrisy to celebrate saving some children while maiming or murdering others."

Nevill Barbour was a journalist and a BBC Palestine correspondent during World War Two, and had forecasted severe strife following the creation of Israel in his book, 'Nisi Dominus' published two years before Israel was created.

Nicola Smith added: “How can it be that three generations later we are still seeing violence against children?

"I ask anyone who is moved by this film which celebrates saving innocents, to play their own part in making violence against children stop."
