Tributes have been made to a “very intelligent and downright funny” 60-year-old woman who has been found dead by police.

Sarah, whose surname has not been disclosed, was originally reported missing by police on Wednesday after last being seen in Oxford one week before.

Thames Valley Police had released a public appeal in an attempt to help trace Sarah due to concerns for her welfare.

However, yesterday (Friday, December 21), police confirmed that Sarah, from Oxford, had been found dead.

The force has confirmed it is  treating the death as unexplained, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

Since then, tributes have been made following the news.

Oxford Mail reader James, who has not revealed his surname, said: “So very sorry to hear this.

“I'd not seen her for 20 years and had completely lost touch but she was very intelligent and downright funny. A real loss.”

Another tribute left by Rowena Smith said: “I'm so sorry for your loss. I will say a prayer for you at this difficult time.”

While another wrote: “How very sad for this lady's family especially at this time of year.

“I hope they are now able to grieve and have closure, so tragic."

Responding to the police's statement on the death, missing people group Phoenix Guardians. wrote: "We at Phoenix: Bringing People Home are sending our condolences to Sarah’s family and friends at this difficult time."

Police said on Friday that formal identification has not yet taken place but Sarah's family have been informed.

The force also thanked those who helped with the public appeal as messages pour in for Sarah.

Another tribute from Kerry Anne Firth said: "Such sad news. Our thoughts are with Sarah’s loved ones at this difficult time."

Susi Trinder wrote: "Sad news. My thoughts go out to her family and friends at this sad time."

Sara Jane added: "This is absolutely horrific. Thoughts are with the family."

Jane Stone wrote: "Very sad news. Sending love to those left behind."

Sheila Aitken added: "God bless that poor soul. RIP condolences to your family. Just so sad."

A Thames Valley Police spokesman said: "We are sorry to say that a body has been discovered in our search for missing woman Sarah, aged 60, from Oxford.

"Formal identification has not yet taken place but Sarah's family have been informed. Our thoughts are with her loved ones at this extremely difficult time.

"We are carrying out enquiries into the death, which is currently being treated as unexplained, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

"We would like to everyone who shared our appeal."
