New data published on Oxfordshire secondary school's GCSE results has revealed the top performing schools in the county.

The Key Stage 4 data, which is subject to change, shows how well each high school in the county performed in this year's GCSEs.

The figures, which are the first released by the Department for Education since the Covid pandemic, also reflect progress made while children are at secondary school.

The top performing school was Didcot Girls’ School, an Ofsted graded outstanding school, where 71 per cent reached a Grade 5 or above in English and maths GCSEs.

Number two was The Cherwell School in Marston Ferry Road in Summertown, where 68 per cent also achieved a Grade 5 or above in English and maths GCSEs.

Overall children made above ‘well above average' progress.

In third was Langtree School in Woodcote, near Goring, which despite having a higher percentage than The Cherwell School at 70 per cent earning a Grade 5 or above in English and maths GCSEs, had a lower progress score causing it to drop a place.

Also in the top five were Chipping Norton School and Gillotts School in Henley.

Department for Education chiefs warned that school performance data for the 2022/23 academic year should be used with caution given the ongoing impacts of the Covid pandemic, which affected individual schools and pupils differently.

School performance data should be considered alongside a range of other information about the school, which could include looking at school websites, reading Ofsted reports, and speaking to the school directly.
