An Oxford schoolboy has reached his goal of running 1,000 miles during 2023 to raise funds for the Oxford Children’s Hospital Charity.

Oren, a Year 11 pupil at Magdalen College School, concluded the feat at the Sir Roger Bannister Running Track.

At 13, Oren was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a rare bone cancer that resulted in a year's absence from school due to long surgical procedures and eight months of chemotherapy.

He spent his 14th birthday having a 12-hour operation to remove an affected bone in his skull before having six cycles of therapy, spanning from November to June of that year.

Oren undertook his marathon after his recovery with the help of the Oxford Children's Hospital.

Acknowledging the support from staff on the surgery and chemotherapy wards, Oren took up running to improve his health and raise money for the facility that was instrumental in his recovery.

On December 12, accompanied by his year group, Oren completed the final three miles at the Sir Roger Bannister Running Track, a site of historical significance.

The funds raised by Oren’s initiative stand at nearly £8,000, with an aim of reaching £10,000.

In 2023, one brave youngster demonstrated resilience beyond his years, turning a personal struggle into a generous act, inspiring his community and much further afield.
