An Oxford football club has launched a disabled children's football team.
In partnership with Oxfordshire FA, Oxford Blackbirds has started offering inclusive football sessions for players traditionally limited in opportunities to play with Oxford Blackbirds Disabled Football.
The Blackbirds were delighted to confirm that the trial session was a success and as such the initiative will now be a permanent addition to the club's offerings.
These sessions are planned to run every other Sunday from 11.30am to 1pm, at the Leys Pools & Leisure Centre.
Upcoming sessions are scheduled for Sunday 10th December and 7th January.
Currently held indoors, sessions will shift to the 3G pitch once the weather conditions improve.
Kelly Jackson Memorial Fund committee member Lee Jackson said: "All involved are extremely grateful for the sponsorship from the Kelly Jackson Memorial Fund.
"The fund has already sponsored the training equipment and will continue to support these sessions.
"The Kelly Jackson Memorial Fund are absolutely delighted to sponsor a local cause which is so close to our hearts.
"The initial taster season was very well supported and would encourage anyone in the area to come down and give it a try.
"The Oxford Blackbirds has a very dedicated coaching team and you will have a fun time participating."
Oxford Blackbirds disability secretary and volunteer coach Kirsty Greenough said: “The taster session was a huge success and children from all over Oxfordshire attended and they had so much fun.
"They had a ball at their feet, scoring goals and bringing lots and lots of smiles to our session and was so heart warming to see.
"We are giving children with disabilities the opportunity to be part of a club, part of a team.
"To see children with additional needs enjoying the game we all truly love is amazing."
Ms Greenough also shared the club's plans to further develop the programme to include more age groups.
Currently targeted at 5-11 year olds, the ambition is to broaden the reach.
She added: "Going forward we would like to introduce more football for all ages.
"Our aim is to get everyone involved as the need for these sessions is great.
"We are so proud we can offer this at Oxford Blackbirds as Football is for everyone."
