Despite high winds and intermittent showers, residents of Wantage braved the elements yesterday (Sunday, December 10) to enjoy the Wantage Artisan Christmas market.

Market-goers enjoyed the Christmas festivities, browsing from a wide selection of locally-made and crafted gifts and products from over 40 stalls and enjoying a variety of food and drink.

Jim Mitchell, town project coordinator for Wantage Town Council, said: "We all enjoyed great music from The Wantage Silver band, the Hendred Ukelele group, Lizzie's Trombone Quartet and Caritas Children's Choir and vocalist Sarah Chitty added to the atmosphere.

"Surprise appearances from a busy Father Christmas and the Grinch also went down well with the public.

"It was a great day for and we'll certainly do this again next year. Many thanks to these groups for braving the elements and also the volunteer security staff."
