National Highways said it has made changes to roadworks at Botley Interchange to try to prevent a repeat of the many miles of tailbacks last week.
Traffic chaos broke out on the approach last week, with motorists facing delays of over five hours reaching Oxford from the A34 and A420 and fights breaking out in the jams.
National Highways also announced that it hopes upgrade works to the bridge at Botley Interchange will be completed early - in February rather than March.
Additional work took place over the weekend to hopefully help speed up journeys.
Sean Martell of National Highways told Radio Oxford: "We've installed yellow boxes and Keep Clear road markings and additional signage to assist in keeping the junction clear.
"I'm confident that if there is compliance by most drivers we'll be able to keep the paths where people join that road free to allow people to get on and off."
However, motorists are reporting little improvement.
At 12.50pm one motorist described the traffic as 'shocking' and said they had waited at the lights for 15 minutes while another sent in pictures of long queues at Hinksey Hill at lunchtime.
