A man has been arrested after bank staff were allegedly threatened with an imitation gun.
Police were called to a bank on Cornmarket Street in Oxford at around 10am today (November 28) following reports an offender was in possession of a firearm and threatening members of staff.
Armed officers challenged the man and safely resolved the incident.
No one was injured.
A 40-year-old man from Oxfordshire was arrested and remains in custody.
Superintendent Matt Bullivant, said: “This was a concerning incident and our officers rapidly deployed to the scene which led to the incident being safely resolved.
“Thankfully no one was injured and I would like to praise staff for their handling of what must have been a very worrying incident."
He added: “Incidents such as this are very rare in the Thames Valley, but we will always respond immediately in order to resolve them safely and protect members of the public.”
A staff member from HSBC in the city centre confirmed the incident happened at their bank branch, but referred all other questions to their press office.
