A Mercedes driver who failed to stop for police escaped after a high speed chase through Oxford city centre.

An eyewitness told the Oxford Mail a Mercedes saloon was being chased down St Giles by at least three cop cars including a dog unit and traffic Volvo.

The police chase took place on Sunday night (November 19) between 10pm and 11pm with the driver making "off at speed".

Thames Valley Police said no arrests have been made and investigations continue to find the driver.

A police spokesman said: "This was a vehicle that failed to stop for police in Oxford city centre.

"A pursuit failed to stop the vehicle which made off at speed.

"No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing to locate the driver."
